The IT-enabled services industry provides employment opportunities for
young women who are educated and trained in urban English-medium
schools. GE, American Express, Standard Chartered Bank, CitiBank, British
Airways, Microsoft, AOL, Time Warner, HP, Dell Computers, Prudential
Insurance, Morgan Stanley, and Mark & Spencer all employ between 35 and
65% of women in their call centres. Tele-tech India, a joint venture BPO
Company between Tele-tech and the Bharti Group, offers its employees the
option of four-day work weeks as opposed to the standard five, as well as
hourly rates with a minimum number of work hours per week. ICT has created
opportunities for the empowerment of women, including Gyandoot, Embalam,
SEWA, Datamation, and Smile. In the next two decades, women are
anticipated to make up a sizable portion of Internet users (Ruksana1 & Ahmed,
2019).
Negative Impacts of Digitalisation
Digitalisation has disadvantages such as social media addiction, cybercrime,
data theft, job loss, information overload, and a lack of interpersonal
interactions. In rural areas, women are in the earliest stages of digitalisation
and face identity issues. Privacy is a separate concern, while security is tight
but not foolproof. As a result of digitalisation, cybercrimes such as plagiarism,
fee fraud, identity theft, and forged documents and identification cards are on
the rise (Yadav, 2022).
Digitalisation also governs antisocial behaviour, economic instability,
addictive nature, departure from traditional social life and intergenerational
