               volunteers collect the data, feed it into an Intranet, and provide access via

               nodes in various villages. The goals of value addition to raw data, use of the
               local language, multimedia, and local participation have been met. Women

               make up the majority of operators and volunteers granting them status and

               influence.


               SMILE (Savitri Marketing Institution for Ladies Empowerment).
               SMILE  (Savitri  Marketing  Institution  for  Ladies  Empowerment)  is  a  non-

               profit  organization  in  Pune  that  has  increased  the  illiteracy  rates  of

               disadvantaged women by utilizing ICT and the Internet. This has allowed them
               to market their products, increase their visibility, and spark debates.


               Datamation Foundation

               The  Datamation  Foundation  initiated  a  project  in  the  Seelampur
               neighbourhood of Delhi in 2003 to connect women with limited resources to

               information  and  knowledge  management  tools.  This  has  established  its

               reputation  in  the  community  and  become  a  major  draw  for  Seelampur's
               women. The ICT centre has bolstered women's self-assurance and awareness

               of their own interests, enabling them to make collective decisions.


               Dairy Information Services Kiosk (DISK)

               The Dairy Information Services Kiosk (DISK) is a project in the Gujarat dairy
               industry that employs Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It

               enables the development of cost-effective solutions that enhance farmers' and
               the union's ability to exchange useful information. In addition, it helps dairy
