The study examines the development of accessible content, effective use of technology, and
supportive accommodations to bolster online inclusivity. The paper also contemplates the
future of online teaching in Sri Lanka, focusing on technological advancements and
unwavering dedication to equality and emphasises the importance of developing and
implementing policies in the Sri Lankan University system to cater to students with
disabilities. It concludes by suggesting ways to gauge the efficacy of online teaching in the
Sri Lankan context, aiding educators in fostering inclusive digital learning spaces. In this
study, a mixed-methods approach was employed to comprehensively investigate the
challenges and opportunities related to online teaching and learning for students with
disabilities in Sri Lanka's higher education institutions.

1. Introduction
The advancement of technology has brought about a new era in education –
online teaching and learning. This innovative approach is reshaping traditional
education, offering greater accessibility, flexibility, and personalised learning
opportunities in making education accessible to a diverse group of learners,
especially during and after the COVID-19 period. However, as this
transformation was embraced, it is vital to ensure that the
advantages/disadvantages of online education are available to everyone,
including students with disabilities. This research zeroes in on a crucial
challenge: enhancing accessibility and inclusion for students with disabilities
in higher education, specifically in the distinctive context of Sri Lanka. By
understanding the unique obstacles faced by these students, the study aims to
pave the way for a fair and inclusive online education environment in Sri
Lanka.
