prostitution in both social and legal definitions. In the Sri Lankan context, there are
multiple causes and factors of women involvement into sex work. Sometimes those
reasons can’t see in society as directly. Research indicates that Poverty, domestic
clashes or broken families, husband’s drug addiction, family neglect, breaking love
affairs, sex for enjoyment, migration for domestic services, are important.
Particularly, research findings argue, that all the factors which women involvement
in sex work are interrelated and interconnected by directly or indirectly. Therefore,
other factors can be managed by identifying the root causes which women
involvement into prostitution. Through this, prostitution can be legalized as a social
functioning unit or non-legalization as a social dysfunctional unit.
