importance to ‗Water‘ (36.8%) and ‗Traditional Knowledge‘ (35.1%) too.
‗Special cases/situations/issues‘ were the concern of 26.3% of the
respondents, and ‗Land‘ had the attention of 15.8%. Both ‗Disasters‘ and
‗Law and policy making‘ interest 10.5% of the respondents.
Sharing (86.2%) was the most common activity in connection with these
groups and pages on Facebook. Comments 67.2%) and posts (62.1%) are
other frequent activities among the respondents. Only 10.3% of respondents
were involved with ‗practical activities‘ such as meetings, protests, and
workshops. 8.6% of the group used tagging, and 3.4% used other methods,
which were not specified.
6.3 Circulating Information
56.7% of the respondents in the group claimed to communicate about
environmental issues and crises across Facebook, and 36.7% used it only
sometimes. Most of them (62.5%) used a real account for this purpose.
19.6% used groups and 16.1% used pages. Nevertheless, 1.8% of
respondents claimed to use a fake account to communicate such matters
across Facebook. Most of the respondents (87.9%) engaged in these
activities through ‗sharing‘. A significant 77.6% communicate through
‗Likes‘ and another 60.3% use ‗posts‘ for this purpose. 58.6% of the
respondents commented on these activities. 1.7% of respondents use other
ways to communicate on environmental issues and crises across Facebook.
91.4% of the above respondents mentioned that they use Facebook for better
communication on environmental issues and crises. 56.9% of the group
preferred Facebook as it was easier to use. 31% of the respondents use
Facebook, as the target group can be found there. Another 25.9% used
Facebook for personal objectives, and 24.1% of respondents used it because
of the facilities it has provided for communication. 19% of the respondents
claimed that Facebook is cheaper to use, and the rest (1.7%) used it for other
unspecified reasons.
The remaining 6.7% of the group of respondents did not use Facebook for
this purpose. The majority of the respondents (50%) did not give a specific
