have started their Facebook accounts only 2-4 years back. There were a
smaller number of respondents who started their accounts less than one year
ago from the commencement of this research.
These questionnaire survey participants presented various purposes for
creating a Facebook account. 78% participants have created personal
accounts, while another 59.3% of the group have created accounts for
communication as a specific purpose. Entertainment was the purpose for
52.5% of the group to create their accounts. 22% of the respondents
maintained organizational and institutional accounts. Only 10.2% of the
respondents have created Facebook accounts for business purposes.
When it comes to the occupations of the respondents, the majority (41.7%)
were government employees. Another 23.3% were in the private sector.
There were 15% who were self-employed, 11.7% students, and 3.3%
employed otherwise. Only 5% of the group was unemployed. The following
respondent noted about the ways in which Facebook is used. The following
quote indicates this.
"I check Facebook while I'm working. I don’t need to read books or
newspapers anymore because I can just look at the information shared
on Facebook. It’s so convenient. I can even check it while I’m on the bus.
I’ve joined some Facebook Groups that interest me, but I don’t have
much time to write comments. Most of the time, I just leave a like. TI01”
42.4% of the respondents mentioned that, for a day, they spend less than one
hour on Facebook. According to 39% of the respondents, they spend 2-4
hours on Facebook per day. 11.9 of the group spend 5-7 hours, and only
6.8% spend more than 7 hours on Facebook for a day.
Most of the respondents (62.7%) use their smartphones to be on Facebook. A
significant percentage (61%) also uses laptop computers for this purpose.
Desktop computers are used by 32.2% but Tabs are used only by 11.9% of
the group.
