Lankan context, a survey was conducted with a convenient sample of 54 youth
belonging to the age category of 18 to 30. An interview schedule with both close ended
and open ended questions was utilized as the research tool to conduct the said survey.
The field chosen for the survey included a digital space of two Facebook profiles,
where 30 respondents were chosen from each Facebook profile belonging to the urban
parts of Colombo. As the data gathered included a culmination of both qualitative and
quantitative data, these were analyzed through both SPSS and a thematic analysis.
4. Findings and Discussion
4.1 Demographic details of the selected sample
As it has already been mentioned under the methodology the selected sample was
comprised of 54 youth residing in Colombo. Out of the said 54 youth a majority of
54% (29) belonged to the age cohort of 22 – 25 years (of age). And the rest of 43% (23)
and 4% (2) were respectively in the cohorts of 26 – 30 and 18 – 21. The majority of
65% (35) of the selected sample was female.
