Message from the Chairman of the Sports Advisory Board
Sports play a vital role in our lives, particularly in
promoting both physical and mental well-being. Regular
engagement in sports not only improves physical fitness
and concentration but also boosts self-confidence,
reduces stress, and contributes to overall personality
development. Beyond individual benefits, sports also
cultivate essential life skills such as teamwork,
leadership, discipline, and resilience, qualities that are
invaluable for both personal and professional
development. It is heartening to see that, over the past few months, students across
various faculties have taken the initiative to organize games, competitions, and batch
meets, clearly demonstrating their enthusiasm and commitment to fostering a vibrant
sporting culture within the university. In this context, the initiative taken by the
Ruhuna University Staff Badminton Association (RUSBA) to organize a badminton
tournament for university staff members is truly commendable.
This tournament presents a wonderful opportunity for staff from different faculties
and units to engage with one another, strengthen interpersonal relationships, and
showcase their talents in a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition. With such
collective efforts, it is evident that the University of Ruhuna is gradually nurturing a
robust culture of sports. This evolving culture reflects a much-needed shift in our
shared attitudes, values, and practices regarding physical activity and well-being
within the university environment. The dedication shown by RUSBA not only
highlights the university’s recognition of the importance of sports but also underscores
the growing enthusiasm and active participation among staff members. I extend my
heartfelt best wishes for the success of the tournament and am confident that it will be
an enjoyable and memorable experience for all participants.
