attempts. There are indications that for each adult who died by suicide there may have
been more than 20 others attempting suicide.In the last 45 years suicide rates have
increased by 60% worldwide. Suicide is now among the three leading causes of death
among those aged 15-44 (male and female). Suicide attempts are up to 20 times more
frequent than completed suicides.

All of the above data suggest that men are more likely to commit suicide than women.
In Sri Lanka, suicide is mostly based on social issues and utility factors. According
to the 2007 Police Department sources, there are various methods used to commit
suicide in Sri Lanka(Mohamed Mahees,2019). Among them most famous patterns
are, agricultural pesticides, hanging train and other vehicles, and using firearms etc.
According to the above, there are global reports of suicide.
