Japanese Language Course

The ‘Advanced Certificate Course in Japanese Language Proficiency’ which is an internal certificate course especially designed to meet the needs of those students wishing to pursue a career in Japanese institutions, academia and the corporate sector in this global era. Going beyond the traditional aspects of knowledge impartment, which aims at solely developing the competency in the four language skills; reading, listening, speaking and writing, this course educates the learners about the Japanese culture, society, literature and arts as well. There is a demand from the internal students who are interested in Japanese Studies to enhance their knowledge not only about the language but also about the Japanese culture and customs. The proposing Advanced Certificate Course in Japanese Language Proficiency’ would enable students to specialize in the relevant area leading to one year course in Japanese studies.

Objectives of the Certificate Course in Japanese Studies (Level 1 SLQF):

The objective of the Advanced Certificate Course in Japanese Language Proficiency’ (Level 1 SLQF) is to produce individuals who are able to effectively communicate in practical situations using Japanese. Therefore, this course aims to lay a solid foundation by fostering essential language skills that are required to achieve the intended learning outcomes in order to prepare learners for the world of work and higher-education. Therefore, the objectives of this course are,

  • To build practical and effective oral communicative ability in Japanese through hands-on-learning.
  • To foster skills in comprehension and composition aimed at effective written communication.
  • To deepen the understanding of Japanese culture and lifestyle inculcating positive attitudes towards Japan and eventually towards diverse cultures and lifestyles.
  • To develop translation and interpretation skills.
  • To lay a solid foundation to prepare learners for the world of work by developing knowledge, skills and attitudes.
