Abstract
Digitalisation aids impoverished nations in escaping poverty. Digitization can be used as a
means to alleviate poverty and achieve a sustainable economy in underdeveloped nations.
Transferring the economy to a digital economy is crucial for achieving economic growth. The
purpose of this conceptual paper is to review the literature on economic digitalisation and
initiatives facilitating digitalisation. This article examines the relationship between
digitalisation and poverty eradication, sustainable development, areas and initiatives for
digitalisation, and the negatives associated with digitalisation. The systematic literature
review was conducted under Xiao and Watson's (2017) method. A systematic literature
review was conducted using the databases in Science Direct, Emerald, Taylor & Francis, and
JSTOR. There are few studies examining the relationship between digitalisation and poverty
eradication. Through technological initiatives, digitalisation in the modern world has enabled
economic growth. In this study, four major research gaps, namely knowledge gaps, empirical
gaps, contextual gaps, and methodological gaps, have been identified, and future research
directions have been provided.
