As a nation, Sri Lankans currently facing a massive complication through the
impact of the existing economic crisis. In such a situation, university students had
to cope with numerous issues in their academic sector. This study aims to
determine such complications circulate among university students, what are their
perceptions and the reasons according to their knowledge. In this context, the
study focuses on the question of what are the effects of the crisis on university
students on their academics due to the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka. The
specific objective of the research is to identify what are the matters that university
students had to experience during this defenseless condition in Sri Lanka. The
qualitative research method has been utilized in this case. Moreover, semi-
Structured Interviews conducted through phone calls, questionnaire methods and
document analysis methods are used to get the in-depth information. Majorly,
results revealed that the current economic situation in Sri Lanka is extremely
negative and the present country has hindered their academic activities via direct
or indirect methods. Additionally, students who have access to the Mahapola and
Bursary Scholarship allowances did not receive them systematically during this
problematic period. These results support the feasibility of the respective study
and particularly disclosed that Authorized Parties should stand out with the most
appropriate and immediate solutions to terminate these unmanageable situations.
At last, the implications and attention made through this study could be useful to
the conquest of the components of academic performances of university students.
