It is then plastered with a thin layer of white
plaster. On this polished dry surface, the
frescoes were painted. This method is called
the 'Tempera' or ' Fresco Secco'. Among the
colours used in Ajanta paintings are red, black,
white, yellow, blue and green. These colours
are made by themselves using local ingredients
except blue. The blue coloured mineral is
believed to have been obtained from Persia.
