Elephant Transits Home –Udawalawa

This is an attractive place situated away from the main cities in Sri Lanka, based on conserving the Elephant the larger animal on the land. The rehabilitation Centre to orphaned elephant calves that missed from parents or are in danger of losing their lives in the jungle. The Centre feeds them a regular period and ultimately release back in to the wild.The land of 200 acres has been separated its activities situated at Udawalawa, attached to the NationalParkwhich nearby to the Northern limits to the Southern Sri Lanka.

The most importance of this place, is the first and only such rehabilitation Centrefor elephants in the Wild life field in the World. This is controlled under by the Sri Lanka Department of Wild Life Conservation.

The activities were started in 06th October 1995 by pioneering of Dr. Nandana Atapattu and declared open it officially to services by former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake. The first herd were released to the Jungle on 21st March 1998, thereafter many number of rehabilitated elephant calves continuously released so.

When a calf taken to this Centre, the first take actions are serve first aid treatments. And then feeding milk which used to infants by bottles, to smallest calves, and others are fed also for until about a year. After that they are to be learned having grass and suitable leaves, instead to milk and for avoid dangerous animals,searching water themselves also. If all are satisfied release them to the wild again under supervision of wild life officers as a beautiful Sri Lankan Elephants.

Safari park- Ridiyagama

Ridiyagama Safari Park is an excellent place to visit, located in the Ridiyagamadry environmentalareaof Southern Sri Lanka. Itis spread over a500 acres of land openedthe public in May 2016 and also the first ever drive through safari park in Sri Lanka. The Department of National Zoological Gardens of Sri Lanka administrates the park and it primarily aims at housing major mammals and birds. The park area is divided in to six zones with four zones dedicated to behaviors animals. Some carnivore animals present at the zoo are lions, tigers and leopards. This park also has a 35 acre African lion zone, a 54 acre Sri Lankan elephant zone and an 80 acre world zone and aims at developing African, Asian, Australian zones and small animal kingdom.
