Samitha is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Ruhuna University, Sri Lanka. He is also one of the student counsellors of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. In addition, he is a faculty affiliate with the Ruhuna University Cultural Center and the Center for Modern Language and Civilizations. Currently he is one of the editorial board members of the Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Review. His research broadly concerns qualitative methodology, cultural anthropology, medical anthropology, Religion and Spirituality, Rural Sociology, Migration, Modern Sociology, Social Work and Social Policy, and contemporary South Asian society. He is now reading for the Master of Philosophy focusing sustainable development and early childhood education in disadvantaged communities in Sri Lanka. Moreover, his current research project on “Cognitive orientation of peasants in eastern societies” broadly explores how world-view of peasants has been constructed and changed in the eastern part of the world in which he has observed rural life in Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia and Sri Lanka broadly. Samitha’s work has been published in the Journal of Asian Anthropology, Journal of Culture-Religion and Medicine, Global journal of Sociology among other indexed and peer-reviewed journals. Before coming to University of Ruhuna, Samitha obtained his MA and BA in Sociology from the University of Peradeniya.
